Pushing the boundaries of colour

Pushing the boundaries of colour

For any professional in the hair industry, ensuring you remain at the forefront of hair styling and colouring, is an on-going commitment.

Here at TWO, training is a top priority, as not only does it ensure we develop our own personal skills and improve on techniques, but it also enables us to offer clients an experience above and beyond what other hairdressers do.

Last week, TWO hosted an ‘Advanced Colour’ training session for the team in the dedicated colour space area in the salon.

Hosted by one of Davines’ expert Educators from London, it was an opportunity for Marcus, Shona, Sarah and Lucy to explore their creative sides and push the boundaries for the colour brand all from the comforts of the salon, here in Southsea.

Four models were invited to be ‘live canvases’ for the day and each member of the team assigned a model to work with. The models, all of which had their own style and look, were treated to the exclusive TWO hair experience which, as standard, commenced with an in-depth consultation to discuss their requirements and the colour journey required to achieve their hair goals.

Using a range of expert colouring techniques and overseen by the Davines expert, each member of the team was responsible for mixing up the colours and developing a unique look for their model.

Marcus and Shona used the ‘perfect bleed’ colour technique on both their models, with Marcus developing a mink grey root which perfectly blended into violet ends and Shona creating a mulberry colour root, expertly blending into bubble gum coloured ends.

Lucy was given the opportunity to develop a ‘half and half’ colour style for her model, which used colour tones from contrasting ends of the colour spectrum and expertly applied to compliment one another.

Using free hand balayage, Sarah created a striking look with a slate grey shadow root, which perfectly blended to a light grey root.

Which one is your favourite?

As a salon we already knew the Davines brand offered our client’s a first class ‘In salon ‘ experience. However what we all came away from the training with was a renewed sense of respect for what we could achieve with the colour range and an expert understanding of the best colouring techniques to undertake to achieve a look.

Making shapes up in the Big Smoke

Making shapes up in the Big Smoke

The last few days have seen TWO’s duo, Marcus and Shona, down tools in the salon and head up to London to attend leading International hair education company, Allilon’s, renown ‘Primary Shapes’ training course.

The two-day course focused on “The WHEN, WHY and HOW of cutting hair” and introduced us to Allilon’s basic principles of hair cutting which is about choosing “the most suitable length and shape of a haircut, and executing it with a strong technique.”

Located in the heart of London, Davine’s Flagship salon, Ena in Covent Garden, played host to the training course, which saw hair stylists from across the UK travel too, to learn more about this pioneering and innovative approach to hair cutting.

Ran by Pedro, the course required us both to leave what we knew about hair cutting at the door and stripping it back to basics, which to start with was easier said than done we must admit. However within a few hours, and let loose on a mannequin or two, we could both see how the change in approach achieved what every single person who walks into our salon in Southsea wants… a great haircut.

In it’s simplest form (and not wanting to give away too many trade secrets) all haircuts start with a basic shape, and from this, you then develop the haircut. Sounds simple we know, and by the end of the training course, (which of course we both passed with flying colours), both of us knew we would be heading back to the South Coast with a new invigorated approach to every haircut we undertake.

So whether your hair is short, long or mid-length or you want beach inspired lazy waves or a short and structured classic bob, as we pause before we start work, you can be confident we are asking ourselves “triangle, square or circle?’ and then we will begin…

Where does Summer styling take you?

Where does Summer styling take you?

Is your Instagram feed full of friends, celebrities and everything in between getting beach ready? If so you will know there is only one accessory you need for the beach this summer and that is beach hair. Forget the balayage effect, from Millie Macintosh to Rosie Huntington Whitely, the ‘just spent a summer in Mykonos’ look is right on trend. And best of all, with a good cut and colour, the textured, natural beach hairstyle requires minimal day to day styling effort. The perfect hairstyle I hear you say!

Forget the scrunched sea spray approach, lazy waves can be created effortlessly with a great haircut and straighteners, and the natural sun-kissed colour is created using a scattering of expertly placed baby lights.

Whether your hair is long or short, ‘beach hair’ is a signature style for TWO (check out our Instagram feed) and a trend we are pretty confident is here to stay for a while… I mean how can this style even possibly date?

So, whether your beach-bound aboard or here in Portsmouth this summer, book your next appointment at TWO and let us take you on a journey to the best beach hair, so you can be sure you fit in effortlessly whatever beach you throw your towel on.

How many shades of grey?

How many shades of grey?

A damp and grey Monday morning and we were stood at Fratton Station shoulder to shoulder with the big city commuters. A strong coffee in one hand and a whole heap of enthusiasm in the other, we were headed to the Brick Lane, and the uber-trendy ‘Not Another Salon’ for a specialist training course.

No longer an unavoidable choice of hair colour, grey is back in fashion and with an influx of TWO guests wanting to experiment with the growing trend of the silver spectrum of colour, both of us wanted to perfect our skills in the various shades of grey.

Lead by International Educator Sophia Hilton, the Not Another Academy (situated in the Not Another Salon) is famous globally for its colouring techniques and hosted the one day ‘Grey Specialist’ course. It was a hands-on affair, working with live models, enabling us to experiment with our newly taught techniques using a colour palette of greys.

Whilst hair trends are constantly changing, the techniques we learnt from Not Another Salon, were innovative and will further complement our experience and ability to create great, natural hair for all our guests.

We look forward to experimenting any shade on you!
